storage spaces

Image result for storage facilities

I recently watched a YouTube video about storage spaces. You know the buildings

Where you store your “stuff”. Items that you cannot house in your home or dare I say garage…

Articles you just simply cannot live without, so you tell yourself.

Items that years ago would have been considered trash.

So what is the point of a storage facility a.k.a  storage space.

I guess your “valuable junk” could have been put into some landfill causing havoc>>>

So on a positive note your “valuable items” are now  quietly hidden from view in the modern day form of a large garbage bin [ which btw you are paying $$$ for ].

Earlier today I decided to have look at the number of storage units in my local town of 101,871 residents. Believe it or not, and yes believe it there are 11 storage facilities in my local neck of the woods [ just west of Fort Lauderdale, Florida ]

So tell me>>>

Why spend the money for the storage space?

Think of the time and energy going back and forth to fill the unit?

Is it the “out of sight, out of mind” theory in practice here? Could be.

Me thinks, that a storage facility still takes space up in your mind too.

Thoughts?

less is MORE…. always.

The “old” way

carolyn chebaro less is moreRecently, Miss Evie and I, she is the one smiling in the picture, took a dander up to West Palm Beach.

[ You might of heard of West Palm Beach as a certain president has a home up there.]

I love the drive up to this eastern coast of Florida. There are some pretty cool views of the Atlantic Ocean. If I close my eyes I can see them in my mind’s eye now as I type. Life slows down driving up that two lane road for me.

Relaxation.

The journey is about 1 ½ hours.

There is an elegant street in West Palm Beach called Worth Avenue. Every chic designer shop

Can be found lining the tree lined street there:, YSL,Tiffany, Brooks Brothers … the lot. Off the main thoroughfare are snazzy shops and eateries. The appearance and ambiance is very European and the whole atmosphere reeks of sophistication [ and money].

This part  of the Sunshine State is home to many billionaires. Sprinkled about them are those residents that come from “old” money , meaning their wealth was been passed down from generation to generation.

And

Here is I LOVE about Worth Avenue.

The“old” way the shops close at 5:30 pm and they are closed on Sunday.

Imagine.

Magical.

Do you remember when stores, clothing, grocery, hardware to name a few called it a day and closed up, went home in the late afternoon or early evening? We all spent time with the family at a dining room table together. Laughter, Stories. Fun.

Somehow as a consumer you were able to purchase all you needed, you planned your day. Enough was enough. The term “shop till you drop” was never in vogue.

For me, life seemed more rounded.

I know it might be difficult to recall, and for some of you that concept is completely alien but gosh, I miss those times. The days when consumerism and beating the Jones’ was not a national hobby and pastime.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not one to look back and say “ those good ole days” because,

Well I know life goes on and things change.[ I get it ]

But

This does not mean I, you, me, we have to participate in this type of lifestyle. I would like to think

We can all can create our own way of living.

A time when you simply called it a day. Rest. Reflect. Await tomorrow to bring new adventures, experiences, expectations.

Less is MORE my friends.

Less is MORE.

Face smile movies

A few nights ago I was having a perusal [ as you do ] on YouTube.I stopped at a GQ interview with Hugh Grant.

The actor was chatting about all his various movies including, Four Weddings and A Funeral, Bridget Jones, Notting Hill and one of my all time favs, Love Actually. I have watched that scene where he dances by himself across the floors of 10 Downing Street zillions of times .

I love this guy and his movies.

So

When the interview finished my heart was lighter, I had a smile on my face.

And

I got to thinking, those movies are happy movies, joy-filled movies, feel good movies. Less violence and sadness, MORE merry and jolly.

The world needs more of those movies, that type of entertainment.

Face smile movies.

What movies, actors do you enjoy, what movies warm your heart?  I would really love your suggestions in the comment box below.

Here is link to that interview I mentioned.

my God moment

carolyn chebaro minimalism, less is more, lifestyle

I recently decided to listen to podcasts in the car [ better the mind and all that stuff ].

Tootling down the road I had my eyes on the road and my ears listening to someone

Talk about ways to have a calm lifestyle.

I am all into this stuff.

And

Did you know that one way to reduce stress is to stop and look at something green?

Who knew!

You are probably thinking, trees, grass, mountains and hill>>>right?

Fast forward.

I was stopped at a traffic light, first in line to take off when the lights changed [ and I usually put the pedal to the metal as soon as the lights change their color- bad habit I know ]

Zoom Zoom

And the lights turned green… GREEN. I did a double take, GREEN.

I looked at those traffic lights twice.

GREEN.

I hesitated to proceed forward.

GREEN.

And then to my right, out of the corner of my eye a red car ran the traffic light, four lanes of traffic to boot right past me.

So

Had I not been listening to that podcast about the color green>>>well I suspect I would not be putting together this blog post.

Grateful, so grateful for…

my God moment

More storage needed

carolyn chebaro, minimalism, less is more, simple lifestyle

And confession time [ again ] I play a game when I dander outside.

OR one might say I am nosy but I am intrigued by the of packages my neighbor receives. They are boxes of all shapes and sizes. In particular, my neighbor loves [ or perhaps lives for shopping for shoes ] Man …the number of shoes the woman buys is ridiculous.!!

I swear this past week I counted three pairs neatly left at her front door.

Three.

I have not lowered myself to count the number of shoes she has purchased in a month but I am sure it is in the double digits.

Today when I went outside for a breath of fresh air I glanced over and saw this box. It was a storage unit for>>>> you got it>>>>shoes [ shown above ] If you were in the neighborhood you would have heard me laugh.

Yes indeedeee, a storage unit for the shoes that have been purchased.

But let’s get serious…

I can only think that something is missing. Now I am no psychologist, but looking from the “outside in” something is wrong. My neighbor is addicted to shopping, online, for shoes.  Serious.

Regardless

All this goes so against my less is MORE mindset. I mean, how many pairs of shoes can one human being wear at one time.  [ last time I recall, this to be ONE ]. I get it, perhaps you might need several colors and styles but come on.

If you have been following me you know how many pairs of shoes I own.

Three.

And I get this might be an extreme BUT this is all I have determined I need. Each of the pairs of shoes has a purpose. I feel happy with my three pairs of shoes.

This is my choice, I am not doing without.

Trust me…less is MORE always

TIP : email clear out

I recently picked up a tip from a friend.

We will call my friend, Joe, clears out his in box in his email account all the time. Actually he saw my email account and sort of said how can you deal with all those emails…what clutter?

So anti less is MORE right!

Like you, I just open the emails I want.. but never really delete, clear out the “box”. I guess you would never do this in your snail mail, I mean keep the junk mail in the physical box,  so why would you do this online?

So this weekend I started deleting all my emails, I now have “clean” boxes. It feels bloody marvelous!

Now

Of course BEFORE you do this make sure you put into folders or in the cloud those important emails. You might create a file in google drive or even save those emails in a file in your email account [ most if not all services offer this ] But I would really encourage you to clear out your online inbox.

And

Let us know if you do this.

I guess you can never stop learning.

And another wee tip from me:)

Less is MORE…. Always

#lessismore.

It is not about throwing stuff away.

Here is the thing.

Less is MORE is not about throwing or giving things away.

NOT at all.

All that happens when you do this is, typically, you buy more “stuff”. It is a vicious cycle. It is like the revolving door at Macy’s or any other big box store… around and around you go…

In the online world it is like HAVING to have an Amazon Prime account  [ or life is not worth living ]. Perhaps this is worse that the big box store.

Enter your credit card number

Press this button from the comfort of your home, office, car or at the beach.

Magic?

Buy Buy Buy

One of the premises of Less is MORE is about purchasing with intention. With purpose. Quality over quantity [ I will go over this in another post ]

This mindset is about discovering what is important to you. What items are worthy of your “space”.

I have found that once my external world is clearer so too is my internal world, my mind.

There is less clutter outside and therefore less clutter inside. My mind is able to think with intention, with purpose or not at all [ which is not a bad thing ].

Right?

The hairdryer

carolyn chebaro less is more minamilism

Let me set the scene.

A few days ago I had  to go into a neighbor’s house [ leaky pipes causing havoc ] After viewing the dastardly deed I was introduced to the man of the house’s new wife.

The lady, perhaps a few years younger than me was sitting under one of those “old fashioned hair dryers”. Her hair was in rollers .She was reading a magazine.

You remember them- a domed contraption that you sit under, air is forced out and your hair is dried.

Of course you do!

Those are memories of my youth and time spent with my mother. Good times, fond memories.

And

I got to thinking.

Who on earth has time to do that, to sit patiently and well, quite frankly, do very little. But perhaps we need to … YES we all need to.

Stop,

Relax,

Gather our thoughts.

Do nothing.

Take care of ourselves.

Do less but achieve so much more. It just seems like the right thing to do

Who is with me?

The trapeze act.

carolyn chebaro minimalism less is more lifestyleOne thing I have learned

for sure

A balanced life is so important

This lesson was not an easy one for me to learn. In fact I have spent most of my life as an entrepreneur on the trapeze, it has been a balancing act. And many times I have fallen.

You see I did not get it…. that life as an entrepreneur is not about working 24/7. Because if you work that way you get now where, and essentially you are creating a “ job” [ bad 3 letter word in my book ]

So how do you avoid this pitfall.

In my book it is about living a less is MORE lifestyle.

It is about having other outlets.Other interests. Other desires for your life.

We are taught here in the western society that you must have ambition, drive, a go get it attitude. But this does not, should not only apply to your work/business.

All of the above apply to having a well rounded life. Having  ambition to having a good set of friends and a loving family. Drive to keep yourself healthy by eating well and exercising. A go get it attitude to relax and spend time by yourself in nature.

Balance is so important.

It is the foundation of a less is MORE lifestyle.

The Game | Amazon Prime

I do not have an Amazon Prime account. I tried it on a trial but I quickly realized that>>

I don’t buy enough  “stuff”

It is dangerous-simply too easy to buy

But here is the thing. I do use Amazon to buy certain items, books, certain lotion and potions and heavy doggie food for the girl [ a.k.a Miss Evie ].

Finally

I get the magic behind this whole process-  I am slow so forgive me….

I recently made two separate purchases.

And each day, I track to see where my items are…where they are on their journey to me. I count the days till they reach my home.

I find this so exciting, AND You have every right to comment below that “ Carolyn you need a life”.

But seriously, this is so marvelous. I can see when items are dispatched, where they [ and their driver stop for coffee so to speak ] and when they can be found outside my front door.

Don’t you think this is cool?

I do.
