Face smile movies

A few nights ago I was having a perusal [ as you do ] on YouTube.I stopped at a GQ interview with Hugh Grant.

The actor was chatting about all his various movies including, Four Weddings and A Funeral, Bridget Jones, Notting Hill and one of my all time favs, Love Actually. I have watched that scene where he dances by himself across the floors of 10 Downing Street zillions of times .

I love this guy and his movies.

So

When the interview finished my heart was lighter, I had a smile on my face.

And

I got to thinking, those movies are happy movies, joy-filled movies, feel good movies. Less violence and sadness, MORE merry and jolly.

The world needs more of those movies, that type of entertainment.

Face smile movies.

What movies, actors do you enjoy, what movies warm your heart?  I would really love your suggestions in the comment box below.

Here is link to that interview I mentioned.

More storage needed

carolyn chebaro, minimalism, less is more, simple lifestyle

And confession time [ again ] I play a game when I dander outside.

OR one might say I am nosy but I am intrigued by the of packages my neighbor receives. They are boxes of all shapes and sizes. In particular, my neighbor loves [ or perhaps lives for shopping for shoes ] Man …the number of shoes the woman buys is ridiculous.!!

I swear this past week I counted three pairs neatly left at her front door.

Three.

I have not lowered myself to count the number of shoes she has purchased in a month but I am sure it is in the double digits.

Today when I went outside for a breath of fresh air I glanced over and saw this box. It was a storage unit for>>>> you got it>>>>shoes [ shown above ] If you were in the neighborhood you would have heard me laugh.

Yes indeedeee, a storage unit for the shoes that have been purchased.

But let’s get serious…

I can only think that something is missing. Now I am no psychologist, but looking from the “outside in” something is wrong. My neighbor is addicted to shopping, online, for shoes.  Serious.

Regardless

All this goes so against my less is MORE mindset. I mean, how many pairs of shoes can one human being wear at one time.  [ last time I recall, this to be ONE ]. I get it, perhaps you might need several colors and styles but come on.

If you have been following me you know how many pairs of shoes I own.

Three.

And I get this might be an extreme BUT this is all I have determined I need. Each of the pairs of shoes has a purpose. I feel happy with my three pairs of shoes.

TIP : email clear out

I recently picked up a tip from a friend.

We will call my friend, Joe, clears out his in box in his email account all the time. Actually he saw my email account and sort of said how can you deal with all those emails…what clutter?

So anti less is MORE right!

Like you, I just open the emails I want.. but never really delete, clear out the “box”. I guess you would never do this in your snail mail, I mean keep the junk mail in the physical biox,  so why would you do this online?

So this weekend I started deleting all my emails, I now have “clean” boxes. It feels bloody marvelous!

Now

Of course BEFORE you do this make sure you put into folders or in the cloud those important emails. You might create a file in google drive or even save those emails in a file in your email account [ most if not all services offer this ] But I would really encourage you to clear out your online inbox.

And

Let us know if you do this.

I guess you can never stop learning.

And another wee tip from me:)

Less is MORE…. Always

#lessismore.

It is not about throwing stuff away.

Here is the thing.

Less is MORE is not about throwing or giving things away.

NOT at all.

All that happens when you do this is, typically, you buy more “stuff”. It is a vicious cycle. It is like the revolving door at Macy’s or any other big box store… around and around you go…

In the online world it is like HAVING to have an Amazon Prime account  [ or life is not worth living ]. Perhaps this is worse that the big box store.

One of the premises of Less is MORE is about purchasing with intention. With purpose. Quality over quantity [ I will go over this in another post ]

This mindset is about discovering what is important to you. What items are worthy of your “space”.

I have found that once my external world is clearer so too is my internal world, my mind.

There is less clutter outside and therefore less clutter inside. My mind is able to think with intention, with purpose or not at all [ which is not a bad thing ].

Right?

The trapeze act.

carolyn chebaro minimalism less is more lifestyleOne thing I have learned

for sure

A balanced life is so important

This lesson was not an easy one for me to learn. In fact I have spent most of my life as an entrepreneur on the trapeze, it has been a balancing act. And many times I have fallen.

You see I did not get it…. that life as an entrepreneur is not about working 24/7. Because if you work that way you get now where, and essentially you are creating a “ job” [ bad 3 letter word in my book ]

So how do you avoid this pitfall.

In my book it is about living a less is MORE lifestyle.

It is about having other outlets.Other interests. Other desires for your life.

We are taught here in the western society that you must have ambition, drive, a go get it attitude. But this does not, should not only apply to your work/business.

All of the above apply to having a well rounded life. Having  ambition to having a good set of friends and a loving family. Drive to keep yourself healthy by eating well and exercising. A go get it attitude to relax and spend time by yourself in nature.

Balance is so important.

It is the foundation of a less is MORE lifestyle.

The Game | Amazon Prime

I do not have an Amazon Prime account. I tried it on a trial but I quickly realized that>>

  1. I don’t buy enough  “stuff”
  2. It is dangerous-simply too easy to buy

But here is the thing. I do use Amazon to buy certain items, books, certain lotion and potions and heavy doggie food for the girl [ a.k.a Miss Evie ].

Finally

I get the magic behind this whole process-  I am slow so forgive me….

I recently made two separate purchases.

And each day, I track to see where my items are…where they are on their journey to me. I count the days till they reach my home.

I find this so exciting, AND You have every right to comment below that “ Carolyn you need a life”.

But seriously, this is so marvelous. I can see when items are dispatched, where they [ and their driver stop for coffee so to speak ] and when they can be found outside my front door.

Don’t you think this is cool?

I do.

Can a purple lipstick have a purpose?

Okay we all have vices; something that puts a twinkle in our eye and a skip in our step. Something that warms our heart.

Confession

My vice is luxury lipsticks and nail polish. I think it has always been that way, well at least for as long as I can remember.

Give me a sniff of a Dior lipstick and my mood is elevated [ gosh as I type this I feel like, hiding  my head in shame ] But I cannot lie, I am hooked.

I reckon most people have this “ addiction” be it shoes, chocolate. Starbucks coffee, craft products. golf clubs, you name it.

But

I have learned over the years to “ curb “ my appetite.

And this is how I do it.

I consider every purchase, every lippie or nail polish [ and there are not many ] and event… something to look forward to. My purchases are never on impulse but they are planned. I consider what goodies [ the lipstick, the nail polish ] I own and if the purchase has a purpose.

Will I use the item.

Or

Will it sit in its box in a drawer or in a closet?

Really you may say…why waste the time. energy and the space in your mind making a silly decision on what to purchase? You see I treat every purchase like a game. A game where I can  add value to my life.

Value

Are you nuts? We are talking about nail polish and lipsticks!!

Seriously.

I sometimes [ more often than not ] think the world has gone crazy, we all rush around and never stop to take a breath. It is so easy when you are caught up in the rush of it all to make impulse purchaseS [ that capital S is on purpose ]

If you stop and consider your next purchase, be it whatever the “ want or need you have “ you will find MORE joy in selecting that perfect item.

Less stuff, selected with a purpose in mind is MORE.

Always.

Here is the thing.

Less is MORE is not about throwing or giving things away.

The key is inside

Everyone talks about forming habits. You know how long it takes, just stick with it.

La de dahhhhhhh, la de dahhhhhh.

And

Recently I realized I had formed a habit. Unknowingly.

Here is my story…

A new door was  installed in my home. I am told the new door will keep the bad boy out, namely our yearly bout with Sir Hurricane- well I will see and pray.

The thing is that locking the door was different from my old front door. I cannot count the number of times the key was left on the inside and me [ and Miss Evie ] were firmly planted on the outside.

Embarrassing.

But after awhile I formed a habit. Unconsciously, after putting the lease on Miss Evie I grab my set of keys.

Magic.

Only recently I thought about this new habit. How the grabbing of the keys became second nature to me.

And so I reckon the same applied when I started the journey of my less is MORE lifestyle.

I simply decided, subconsciously to evaluate all that was around me, the stuff, the people, my beliefs and thoughts. My work habits [ which quite frankly were totally ridiculous ]I decided that something was not right for me, something rubbed me the wrong way, I had an unease, an angst, a big question about what was my life.

This lead me to life a less is MORE lifestyle. A way of being with purpose, with gratitude and appreciation for the things that really mattered [ to me ].

No fancy beginnings…

No fancy beginnings to this blog.

I simply feel compelled to start putting my thoughts on “paper”. I have nothing out of the ordinary to say, no magical words to save the world, no scientific discovery that will beat cancer and I do not have photographs of the latest must have dress or pair of shoes [ sorry ladies ].

Today, I just have an observation. I question that came to my mind when I woke up.

And that question>>>

What is success?

So I started to think and I started my day in a different way. Rather than walk Miss Evie around the buildings where I live I grabbed some coffee and sat in the doggie park and contemplated.

Each morning I watch all my neighbors head out to work. They jump into their cars and take that journey to work. Day after day, month after month and well, year after year.

And so many of them count the days to the weekend. To the time they can spend the money they earned in the mall. Endlessly, mindlessly walking from one shop to the other.

Only to be faced with another Sunday evening and the thought of work, heading out to the traffic on yet another Monday morning.

Is this success? For me, far from it.

But… I do realize that success is different to each of us. We all interpret success in a different way.

All too often, I believe, many believe success in a material way. A new this and a new that. But if you have ever purchased that new that or this [ and we all have ] the high, the excitement is short lived…. especially when the bills come in!

For me the meaning of true success has been a long time in coming, in recognizing.

When I think of prosperity [ success ]  I think of time. Time to do what I want, when I want and spend it with the people that matter most to me.

You know the drill in my world, #lessisMORE …. always.

And so…. what about you?
